La Jolla Heights

communityfeature1

Located in the southernmost section of La Jolla and borders Tourmaline in Pacific Beach. Bird Rock is a neighborhood offering some of La Jolla’s more reasonably priced homes as well as exceptional oceanfront estates, a small business district with unique shops and restaurants, an oceanside park, and surfers’ favorite, Tourmaline Beach. Bird Rock has traditionally been considered a tight-knit community and remains so today.

Bird Rock, a quaint coastal community, attracts visitors and locals alike with a fabulous mix of restaurants, eclectic shops, seaside parks, and stunning vistas. The village gets its name from a prominent rock (albeit eroding) that attracts a slew of sea birds, located at the end of Bird Rock Avenue. The main attractions, however, are the coastal parks and vistas featuring picturesque coves, sandstone cliffs and sea grass covered reefs.

Dining and Shopping

The heart of Bird Rock is the merchant district which covers 3-1/2 blocks of La Jolla Boulevard from Midway Avenue to Camino de la Costa. The district is home to nearly 100 businesses, offering a wide variety of products and professional and personal services as well as restaurants. Bird Rock has a reputation as a restaurant row with offerings to satisfy every palate and budget, from casual snacks to elegant old-world dining. The merchant district underwent a major transformation in 2008 as the four-lane boulevard was converted to a landscaped two-lane road with diagonal parking. The transformation made the district pedestrian-friendly and an inviting place to stroll, enjoy a cup of coffee, and dine al fresco.

La Jolla Hermosa Park is a small rocky park with benches, picnic tables, and a BBQ overlooking a lovely cove, but no coastal access. The shoreline is accessibility at N. Bird Rock Vista on Camino de la Costa or at the end of Bird Rock Avenue.
